Customer Credit (Pay Later)

Sell on credit at the counter, track what each customer owes, and collect the remainder later.

Customer credit lets trusted customers take goods now and pay later. Each on-credit sale is tied to a customer profile so you always know who owes what.

This is separate from Store Credit: store credit is a prepaid balance (often from refunds). Amount owed is unpaid money from on-credit orders.

Turn It On

  1. Go to Settings > Plan.
  2. Find Customer Credit (Pay Later) and switch it on.

The module is off by default on existing accounts. When it is off, all sales must be paid at checkout (except the existing unpaid-order flow for pickup and delivery without credit tracking).

Online store

On-credit sales work in the portal and POS only. Orders placed on your public online store must be paid at checkout.

Pay Later at Checkout

On New Sale, attach a customer first. Without a customer, Pay later stays disabled.

Click Charge / Checkout, then Pay later to create the order with nothing collected now. This works for Pickup, Delivery, Dine-In, and In-Store sales.

The success screen shows the order total and that it is On credit. The order appears in Sales with payment status Partial or Unpaid depending on whether anything was collected.

Optional collection date

When you use Pay later, you can set an optional promised collection date on the order. This date is for your team’s reference; it does not create a separate scheduled payment row.

Partial payment now, rest on credit

When the customer pays part of the total at checkout:

  1. Lower the amount to pay now and choose a payment method for that portion.
  2. Enable Put the rest on customer credit.
  3. Optionally pick a promised collection date for the remainder.

The order is marked On credit for the unpaid balance. Collect the rest later from the order details page.

Note

If Customer Credit (Pay Later) is off but you take a partial payment, you can still use Save the rest as money owed with a due date. That path creates a scheduled payment you track under Overdue Payments. On-credit orders keep the balance on the order itself instead.

Tracking What Customers Owe

Customer profile

Open Customers, then a customer’s profile. When credit is enabled, the stats row includes Amount owed: the total still due on all open On credit orders for that customer.

If they owe money, use View open credit orders above their order history. It filters to deferred orders with an outstanding balance.

Orders list

On Sales > All Sales:

FilterWhat it shows
Outstanding balanceOrders that still have money due (including partial on-credit sales)
Payment terms: On creditOrders intentionally sold on credit

The payment column shows On credit under the payment status for deferred orders.

Dashboard

Tiles that highlight orders needing attention link to the orders list with Outstanding balance applied so partial and on-credit sales are easy to find.

Collecting Later

  1. Open the order from Sales or the customer’s order history.
  2. Confirm Payment terms shows On credit and review Due date if one was set.
  3. Click Add Payment (or Collect) and enter the amount and method.

When the full balance is paid, the order moves to Paid and the customer’s Amount owed drops automatically. Cancelled on-credit orders no longer count toward amount owed.
