Product Extras and Add-ons

Sell add-ons like extra shot or toppings with their own prices. Create extras groups, attach them to products, and take picks at the POS and online store.

Extras are the add-ons a customer picks when ordering: extra shot, oat milk, toppings, gift wrap. Each extra can add to the item price, and the picks print on the kitchen ticket and the receipt. Unlike options, extras do not create separate SKUs, so "Latte + extra shot" stays one product with one stock count.

Extras or Options?

QuestionUse
Does the choice change which physical item you stock? (Size, Color)Options create separate variants with their own SKU and stock
Is it an add-on to the same item? (extra shot, sauces, gift wrap)Extras add to the price without touching stock

A cafe latte usually uses both: a Size option for Small and Large cups you stock, plus an Extras group for the add-ons.

Create an Extras Group

  1. Go to Catalogue > Extras and click Add Extras Group.
  2. Name the group. The name is the section header customers and cashiers see, for example Extras or Milk type.
  3. Set the selection rules:
FieldWhat it does
Minimum required0 makes the group optional. 1 or more forces a pick before the item can be added
Maximum allowedCaps how many picks are allowed. Leave empty for unlimited. A maximum of 1 shows the group as a single-choice picker
  1. Add the extras. Each row has a name and an Extra price (use 0 for free choices like "No sugar"). Mark a row as Default to preselect it, and use the availability toggle to hide an extra temporarily without deleting it.
  2. Click Save. The group is ready to attach to products.

Attach Groups to Products

  1. Open the product from Catalogue > Products.
  2. In the Extras card, click Manage Extras.
  3. Pick the groups this product offers. Their order here is the order shown in pickers.
  4. Save.

The same group can be attached to any number of products, so one Extras group can serve the whole drinks menu.

How Extras Behave at the Point of Sale

When a cashier taps a product that has extras groups, the picker opens before the item joins the ticket. Required groups must be satisfied, defaults come preselected, and the button shows the live item total. The same item with different picks becomes its own ticket line, so "Latte + extra shot" and a plain "Latte" stay separate.

Extra picks appear:

  • On the ticket line with the price additions
  • On the kitchen board in bold under the item
  • On printed and digital receipts under the item name

How Extras Behave in the Online Store

Customers see the same groups on the product page with the rules spelled out. Required groups block the Add to Cart button until satisfied, and the price updates live as they pick. Each selection combination is its own cart line, and picks show on order tracking after checkout.

Pricing

The extra price of every pick is added to the item's unit price. Taxes, discounts, and coupons then apply to the combined price exactly like any other item.

Example: A latte at 50 with Large +20 and an extra shot +10 rings up as one item at 80. Two of them make the line 160.

Receipts never change after the sale

Sold orders keep a snapshot of the picked extras with their names and prices at the time of sale. Renaming, repricing, or deleting an extra later never changes past receipts or reports.

Managing Groups Later

  • Edit: rename the group, change the rules, reprice or reorder extras. Changes apply to new orders only.
  • Hide an extra: toggle its availability off when an add-on runs out, and back on later.
  • Deactivate a group: turn off Group is offered on products to pause the whole group everywhere without detaching it.
  • Delete: removes the group from every product that uses it. Past orders keep their receipts unchanged.

FAQs

Q: Do extras affect inventory? A: No. Stock is tracked on the product variant only. If you need stock tracking per choice, use options instead.

Q: Can an extra reduce the price? A: No. Extra prices start at 0. Use a free extra like "No cheese" for removals, or a discount for price cuts.

Q: What happens to carts when I deactivate an extra? A: Online carts drop the unavailable pick automatically and the cart total updates. At checkout the order is priced from what is actually available.

Q: Can cashiers skip a required group? A: No. The picker will not add the item until every required group is satisfied, and the server enforces the same rules.
