Catalogue Discounts
Automatic price markdowns on variants, products, categories, or a whole store: scheduling, overlap rules, POS and storefront parity, and reporting.
Catalogue discounts mark items down on the shelf. Shoppers and cashiers see the sale price automatically. No one types a code. This is different from coupons, where the customer or cashier enters a code at checkout.

What a catalogue discount is
A catalogue discount reduces the unit price of matching items for a scheduled window. It applies at New Sale, on the online storefront, and in cart and checkout totals. Coupons still work on top after the markdown price is calculated.
Create a catalogue discount
- Open Catalogue > Discounts in the sidebar (requires the Catalogue Discounts feature on your plan).
- Click Add discount.
- Set Name, Store, Type (percentage or fixed amount), and Value.
- Choose Scope: variant, product, category, or whole store, then select the specific item or category to discount.
- Set Valid from and Valid to dates.
- Save. Status is determined automatically from your dates and active toggle without relying on background jobs.
When more than one rule matches
Only one catalogue discount wins per order line. Resolution order:
- Variant (most specific)
- Product
- Category
- Whole store (broadest)
If two rules share the same scope, the larger savings amount wins, followed by the newest rule if savings are equal.
Coupons and minimum cart values
Catalogue markdowns apply first to the unit price. A valid coupon can still reduce the order afterward. Minimum cart value on a coupon is checked against the discounted subtotal, not the pre-sale list price.
Modifier add-ons are not discounted. Only the base variant price is marked down.
Where shoppers and staff see it
| Where it appears | What customers and staff see |
|---|---|
| POS product tiles | Sale badge and struck-through original price |
| POS ticket | Line discount row and adjusted unit price |
| Receipts | Line-level discount breakdown under matching items |
| Product lists (portal) | Effective sale price and discount badge |
| Online storefront | Badge on cards, sale price on the product page, and dedicated /sale page |
| Meta catalogue feed | sale_price attribute automatically included while the discount is active |
Reporting
Order total discount includes both coupon savings and catalogue markdowns. Staff analytics discounts given excludes automatic catalogue markdowns so scheduled sales are not blamed on individual cashiers. Your overall discount rate in reports may rise when you run more shelf sales. That is expected.
Price sorting note
On the online storefront, sort by price currently uses the pre-discount list price, while sale items still show their correct badge, sale price, and cart total everywhere. Shoppers can browse all discounted items directly on the /sale page or through category filters.
