POS Cashier Shortcuts

Small counter habits that save time on every sale. These work on the full-screen New Sale screen and in store Receipt settings.

Type a quantity (bulk packs)

The ticket stepper is fine for 1 or 2 units. For a case of 24 bottles, tapping + twenty-four times is the wrong tool.

1. Open New Sale and add the product to the ticket.
2. Tap the quantity number between the minus and plus controls.
3. Type the count (for example 24) and press Enter, or tap outside the field.
4. Max quantity per order and available stock still apply. If you type above either limit, you see an error and the line stays unchanged (same rules as the plus button).
5. Type 0 to remove the line.

Plus and minus still work for small adjustments.

Open the cash drawer (no sale)

Use this when you need the drawer open without completing a sale (change, float check, or end-of-day).

1. On New Sale, look in the top bar for the cash icon (Open cash drawer).
2. Tap it. The paired thermal printer sends a drawer-kick pulse (same signal used after a cash sale print).
3. If no printer is paired yet, the browser asks you to choose one first.

You can also open the drawer from Receipt settings (see below).

Pair and test the printer before a sale

Pairing used to happen mid-sale while a customer waited. Do it once in settings:

1. Go to Settings > Stores, open your store, then the Receipt tab.
2. In the Printer card, check the status line (paired device name, browser print, or none).
3. Tap Pair printer (or Change printer) and pick the USB or Bluetooth COM device.
4. Tap Test print to send a sample receipt labeled TEST-PRINT (not a real order).
5. Optionally tap Open cash drawer to confirm the kick cable.

Your choice is remembered per store on this browser. Use Remove if you need to clear it.

FAQs

Q: Does typing a quantity skip stock checks? A: No. The same stock and max-per-order rules as the plus button still apply.

Q: Why is Open cash drawer missing? A: The icon appears only when this browser supports thermal printing (Chrome or Edge with Web Serial or WebUSB). Pair and test from Receipt settings on a supported device.

Q: Will Test print create an order in reports? A: No. It prints a local sample with order number TEST-PRINT and never calls the API.
